About

I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music.

-Billy Joel

Jonathan Goldberg is a guitarist, educator, and sound engineer specializing in musical theater. Jonathan started in rock and metal but expanded into Blues, Funk, Jazz, and really a bit of everything else building a flexible style that fits in a wide range of musical environments. They have played guitar for over 22 productions, such as Rent, Jesus Christ Superstar, Dreamgirls, Little Shop of Horrors, and Next to Normal. Their focus is centered on pit work, with long-term aspirations to perform on Broadway.

Jonathan recently graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree in Professional Music. While there, they studied electric guitar with Tomo Fujita, Rick Pekham and Scotty Johnson and classical guitar with Berta Rojas. They have performed in a wide range of settings, including with bands Bodega Fire, Amethyst Deceiver and Solo artists Cam Motley, Lydia Elliot and Veronica Bain. They also accompanied vocalists as part of Berklee’s vocal department and played in productions at Boston Conservatory, Boston University, and Berklee, including standout shows like Dreamgirls and Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 .

Jonathan began teaching at a local music school while still in high school, working with students of all ages and skill levels. Over time, they taught guitar, bass, drums, piano, vocals, production, and even early childhood classes gaining a broad perspective on how people learn and connect with music. Coaching student bands also helped them develop as a music director, learning how to guide groups toward a tighter, more polished sound. Through teaching, Jonathan deepened their own musicianship and discovered a passion for helping others grow, whether that means building confidence, refining technique, or learning how to play as part of a group.

During the pandemic, Jonathan stepped into live sound engineering through a job at their local library, where they worked for four years. The experience opened up a new way to support artists and helped shape a more holistic view of what it means to make music.

What drives Jonathan most is the belief that music works best when it’s built together—with care, with intention, and with others. Whether they’re on stage, in the pit, behind the board, or in the classroom, their goal is always to support the music and the people making it.

They’re always open to new projects and collaborations of any kind. The best way to reach out is via Instagram: @jgoldmusic2003 or by filling out the form HERE.
